assumed contract?

we had a letter from the energy company when we moved into our home stating that we need do nothing as that company already supplied the gas and electricity to this property. It stated that we had an "assumed contract"

We set up a direct debit to pay the bills. I know a lot of you may not believe this, but we never realised that we were only being billed for gas, we have never received a bill for electricity! We had regular visits from two separate meter reading companies, one gas, one electricity, adding to the impression that everything was in order.

Three years passed and then we received a letter saying that we need do nothing as we were now customers of said company, under their "asumed contract" Nothing else happened for about five months, then we recieved a letter saying that they wanted a meter reading so I rang with the reading and asked why they needed this as we have the meter read regularly.

By now, we had realised what had happened, but i was loath to say anything as I did not want to drop myself in the s**t!

We then recieved a letter saying that our bill would be over £3000, and i should ring them to discuss my options, if I did not, then they would send a bill within seven days. Realising that this was a trap, I did not ring.

It has been about four weeks since this incident, I am convinced that they have cocked up, as they have breached both contracts by not sending me a bill. I also suspect that they have never actually paid for the electricity as it woulsd not have been registered.

I know that I have been in a priveledged position but I did not break any laws, nor contracts either as I looked at the contract and it states that I must pay my bills, well I havn't had one!

Im looking for your response and support to this as I feel like a small fish in a very big pond!

Do the company and I have a contract at all, and if we do, have they breached it by not keeping their side up as they have not sent a bill AS PER CONTRACT.

I thought about ringing Manchester United and demanding £300,000 in wages as I play for them under an "assumed contract"Smile
